Cooper Tires Winterfest – Barber Motorsports Park update #2
Good morning from a damp and cool Barber Motorsports Park. Today will be the final day of Cooper Tires Winterfest and it looks like they will be able to get both scheduled races in with no problems. Birmingham got about an inch of snow overnight, but only 60 miles north of the city, they received 6+ inches of snow.
The track is currently damp, but it looks like it should be dry by race time. Today’s schedule is as follows:
10am-10:20am —> USF2000 Warm-up
10:30am-10:50am —> Pro Mazda Warm-up
11:15am-11:45am —> USF2000 Race 1
12:15pm-12:45pm —> Pro Mazda Race 1
12:45pm-2pm —> Lunch
2pm-2:20pm —> USF2000 Warm-up
2:45pm-3:05pm —> Pro Mazda Warm-up
3:30pm-4pm —> USF2000 Race 2
4:30pm-5pm —> Pro Mazda Race 2
The second race of the day in both series will be worth double points.
That corresponds to:

---|---|---|---|
1 | 60 | 11 | 20 |
2 | 50 | 12 | 18 |
3 | 44 | 13 | 16 |

We did get word that Nicholas Latifi, the driver of the M1 Racing No. 18, who suffered a serious crash in Pro Mazda presented by Cooper Tire practice yesterday, will be going to a back up car and is expected to start the first race.
We are still waiting to hear about the No. 79 USF2000 car of Santiago Lozano, who suffered a similar fate in practice yesterday morning.
Both drivers blamed aquaplaning on a wet racetrack for their incidents.
Thanks for reading and we’ll have more to come soon.
