DETROIT, Mich. (May 25, 2021) – As the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear welcomes additional fans in its grandstands as a result of restrictions in Michigan being lifted at outdoor venues on June 1, attendees will also be able to access the Fifth Third Bank Paddock free of charge. All ticketholders at this year’s Grand Prix, held June 11-13, will once again be welcome in the paddock, where race teams and drivers prepare the cars that compete on the Raceway at Belle Isle Park circuit.

The Grand Prix announced last week that several thousand more reserved grandstand tickets will be available to fans at this year’s event following the recent announcement by the State of Michigan that pandemic restrictions will be lifted for outdoor events, beginning in June. Tickets are now available for online purchase only at www.DetroitGP.com/tickets.

With the new guidelines in place, Grand Prix organizers are opening up the Fifth Third Bank Paddock to all reserved grandstand ticketholders, as well as fans that purchase general admission tickets for race weekend. Known as the “locker room of motorsports,” the paddock area provides the opportunity for Grand Prix attendees to get a peak at the garage areas and see the world-class NTT INDYCAR SERIES and IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship teams that race at the event in their natural environment.

“At the 2019 Detroit Grand Prix we opened up the Fifth Third Bank Paddock so all fans had the opportunity to get behind the scenes and closer to the action on Belle Isle,” said Michael Montri, President of the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear. “We weren’t sure if we would have opportunity to provide that experience again this year, but with the new protocols announced last week, we are excited to safely welcome our fans back inside the paddock and give them the chance to feel the excitement of world-class racing here in the Motor City.”

Fans that attend Comerica Bank Free Prix Day on Friday, June 11 at the Grand Prix will also be welcome in the Fifth Third Bank Paddock. Free Prix Day tickets, along with reserved grandstand seats and general admission tickets, are available online at www.DetroitGP.com/tickets.

Ticket Renewal Process to Begin this Week with Tickets to go On Sale May 20

DETROIT, Mich. (May 11, 2021) – The 2021 Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear will follow current health and safety guidelines in the State of Michigan as it makes its return to Detroit and Belle Isle Park, June 11-13. 

Bringing one of the most popular annual summertime events back to the Motor City, the Grand Prix will continue its giveback to Belle Isle by safely welcoming fans to the 31^st running of the Grand Prix in Detroit. This year’s Grand Prix will feature spacing between groups of attendees in reserved grandstand seating, limited general admission viewing areas and reduced capacity in hospitality areas. General admission tickets will also be available for purchase, while displays and fan activities away from the track will be reduced or removed this year to adhere to current protocols. Including race participants, workers, partners, vendors, media and fans, the Grand Prix is expected to host between 6,000-9,000 people each day on Belle Isle.

All attendees will be required to wear a face covering at the Grand Prix, except when actively eating or drinking. Hand sanitizing stations will be present around the venue and there will be cleaning and sanitizing services employed throughout each day, especially in high-contact areas. Each entry gate will include contactless ticket scanning and contactless security/bag screening for attendees.

For fans attending the Grand Prix, the free shuttles to and from Belle Isle will be available and riders will be required to wear a face covering and seating will include spacing between groups in each shuttle. The Grand Prix encourages anyone that plans to attend the event to fully vaccinated before visiting Belle Isle.

Following the cancelation of the 2020 Grand Prix due to the pandemic, some fans elected to transfer their tickets from last year’s event to the 2021 Grand Prix. As the Grand Prix honors those commitments from its loyal fans, the event is reaching out to those ticket buyers this week to review their options for the 2021 Grand Prix. Ticket purchasers that opted for a refund as a result of the cancelation in 2020, along with fans that registered for a pre-sale period in 2021, will also have the opportunity in the coming days to buy tickets for this year’s race. The remaining available tickets for June 12-13 will then be placed on sale on Thursday, May 20.

The Grand Prix will continue its long-standing tradition of Comerica Bank Free Prix Day on Friday, June 11 with a limited number of free passes available upon request. Fans will be able to visit DetroitGP.com to reserve their free passes for Comerica Bank Free Prix Day beginning on Monday, May 17.

Corvette C8.R to Compete at “Home” Race as IMSA Sports Cars Join INDYCAR for June 11-13 Weekend

DETROIT, Mich. (March 25, 2021) – The Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear will return to its traditional one-weekend format in 2021 as the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship will join the NTT INDYCAR SERIES and the Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires for an exciting on-track lineup, June 11-13 on Belle Isle.

The exotic IMSA sports cars were originally scheduled to race in Detroit one week earlier in order to provide teams and drivers the opportunity to compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans – the world’s largest and longest-running sports car event. With the recent announcement that the historic endurance race hosted in Le Mans, France has been delayed to August, the road to Detroit is clear for IMSA competitors to join INDYCAR and Indy Lights for a thrilling three-day racing experience in the Motor City. 

The action-packed weekend will also provide tremendous exposure for Detroit, for Belle Isle Park, for the Grand Prix and its partners as both INDYCAR races will be televised live on NBC on consecutive days, while Saturday’s IMSA race will air live on NBCSN.

IMSA will host practice and qualifying on the Raceway at Belle Isle Park street circuit on Friday, June 11 and then race in the Chevrolet Sports Car Classic late in the afternoon on Saturday, June 12.

The schedule adjustment also creates an opportunity for Corvette Racing to compete at its “home” race. With its headquarters in Metro Detroit, the Corvette Racing team will race both of its powerful and winning Corvette C8.R cars in the IMSA event on the streets of Belle Isle. The C8.R, which made its racing debut in IMSA competition last season and captured the 2020 WeatherTech Championship GT Le Mans (GTLM) title, is set to compete in its first 24 Hours of Le Mans for Chevrolet later this summer.

The 2021 Grand Prix will mark the 11^th time that INDYCAR and sports car racing will compete together on the same weekend at Belle Isle. It will also represent the first time since 2016 that Corvette will compete in Detroit and the first time in 13 years that a Corvette GT sports car will race at its home track.

Following the cancelation of the 2020 Grand Prix due to COVID-19, the event returns with a diverse and entertaining three-day racing lineup in 2021.

The IMSA sports cars and the Indy Lights open-wheel machines will compete with both practice and qualifying on Friday, June 11. All three series will host races on Saturday, June 12 with the first Indy Lights racing action on Belle Isle since 2012 followed by the first INDYCAR Chevy Dual in Detroit race of the weekend (live on NBC at 2 pm ET) and concluding with the IMSA Chevrolet Sports Car Classic in the evening (live on NBCSN at 5 pm ET). The second Indy Lights race of the weekend opens the action on Sunday, June 13before the final INDYCAR Chevy Dual in Detroit (live on NBC at 12:30 pm ET) waves the checkered flag on 31^st Grand Prix event hosted in the Motor City.

DETROIT, Mich. (January 31, 2019) – As the Motor City prepares for the 30^th Grand Prix event in Detroit’s history this summer, the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear is looking for a few hundred volunteers to help host this year’s event – held May 31-June 2 on Belle Isle. Grand Prix volunteers will become members of the Detroit Grand Prix Association (DGPA) and will serve as ambassadors for the Grand Prix, Belle Isle and the city of Detroit during race weekend on Belle Isle. One of the most popular annual events in Detroit, the Grand Prix will once again help wave the green flag on summertime in the Motor City while celebrating the festival’s heritage and history in 2019.

The DGPA hopes to recruit approximately 1,100 volunteers for this year’s event and with over 500 people already registered for 2019, the organization is looking for several hundred more to join the team. DGPA members assist in nearly every aspect of the Grand Prix on Belle Isle, working as ushers and ticket scanners, providing hospitality shuttle services and more during the three-day motorsports festival on Belle Isle. Volunteers will also get the opportunity to experience the Grand Prix from behind the scenes and be part of a very positive event in the community that remains focused on giving back to Belle Isle Park.

The 2019 Grand Prix will feature world-class racing, live music, entertainment, interactive displays, food, drinks and fun for the expected 100,000 fans that will visit the Raceway at Belle Isle Park over the course of the weekend. In 2019, the DGPA will continue to provide an enhanced scheduling program that offers more flexibility and shorter shift times for new volunteers working at the Grand Prix. New members have the option to work one, two or three days at the Grand Prix, but most departments are looking for volunteers to work a shift on both Saturday and Sunday of race weekend.

To join the DGPA and become a volunteer for the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear, members pay an annual fee of $20 – but anyone that signs up by the end of the day on February 1^st will pay a reduced rate of $15.  This fee covers a number of volunteer benefits including a membership patch, commemorative lapel pin and access to pre- and post-race parties for DGPA members.  The Grand Prix also provides each volunteer with a credential to access the venue on race weekend, official uniform shirts and hat, free off-island parking, a shuttle ride to Belle Isle and lunch each day of race weekend.
