COLETTI FINISHES AN INDYCAR CAREER BEST OF EIGHTH TODAY AT THE ANGIE’S LIST GRAND PRIX OF INDIANAPOLIS

Started: 10th
Finished: 8th

“I am very happy with my first top-10 finish of the year. We had a difficult start to the race when there was an accident in turn one and I had to go through the shortcut but luckily didn’t lose any positions. We had a good strategy and I was able to move up a few more places. I had a great battle with Tony Kanaan, passing and re-passing two or three times a lap and managed to hold him off until four laps to go when he unfortunately passed me. We are very happy with the top-10 finish today and I am sure we have more coming our way.”

Fast Facts:

  • Coletti’s eighth place today is his IndyCar career best finish
  • Coletti had his IndyCar career best start 10th this weekend. His previous best was 16th at Barber two weeks ago
  • Coletti picked up 24 points today and now sits 19th in the championship standings with 65 points
  • This was Coletti’s second open-wheel start on the road course at IMS.
  • He was here in 2006, when he won the Formula BMW USA race

DEJA VU ALL OVER AGAIN FOR BOURDAIS AT ANGIE’S LIST GRAND PRIX OF INDIANAPOLIS

Started: 7th
Finished: 4th

“I am happy that we finally finished in the top-five, but for sure I am a little disappointed because we got up to third after the massacre on lap one in turn one and we finished fourth. The race was all about track position and we got unlucky with traffic. The Circle K Mistic E-Cigs car was really good today, but we just could not pass anyone. We needed clear air and we tried a lot of things to get it, but we could never make it work. The guys did a good job in the pits, but it was just not meant to be. The good thing is I think we found a little something with the red tires.”

Fast Facts:

  • Bourdais has started seventh and finished fourth in both of the Grand Prix of Indianapolis.
  • Today’s fourth place finish is Bourdais first of the 2015 Verizon IndyCar Series season. He has finished in the top-eight in four of the first five races this season (St. Petersburg, sixth; Long Beach, sixth, Alabama, eighth and GP of Indianapolis, fourth). He was running sixth before a late pit stop at NOLA dropped him out of the top-10. He was then collected in an incident and finished 21st.
  • Bourdais is 9th in the championship race with 123 points.

Round 6 of the 2015 Verizon IndyCar Series will be the 99th running of the Indianapolis 500 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, May 24, 2015.

Qualifying:
Round 1 (Grp 1): 70.3840 secs / 124.750 mph
Round 2: 70.3679 secs / 124.778 mph
Firestone Fast Six: N/A
Qualified: 10th

“I am really happy with qualifying. Finally we advanced to the next round and will start 10th for tomorrow’s Angie’s List Grand Prix of Indianapolis. After the first session we thought we could maybe be a little higher, P7 or P8, but in the end thats how it goes. We still need to find some more grip and get the car better for tomorrow, but I need to thank the No. 4 crew for all their hard work that they have done this weekend to get me this result today. We are happy that we can finally have a proper race, without having to pass everyone and push hard to get our way up front, so we are looking forward to the race tomorrow and to finally being in the top-10.”

Fast facts:
This is the first time in Coletti’s Indycar career that he has advanced to the second round of qualifying.
The 10th today, is Coletti best IndyCar career qualifying. His previous best was 16th at Barber two weeks ago
Coletti will be making his second start on the IMS road course
In 2006 he won the Formula BMW USA race on the IMS road course

Qualifying:
Round 1 (Grp 1): 70.2779 secs / 124.938 mph
Round 2: 70.0230 secs / 125.393 mph
Firestone Fast Six: N/A
Qualified: 7th

“I had no idea what was going on with Scott (Dixon), but he was always going to be quicker than us. He showed that in round one of qualifying. The Circle K Mistic machine was pretty good today, but I have to do a better job on the Firestone red (alternate) tires. The car is really good on blacks (primary tires), but every time we put the reds on it is a bit of a struggle. I didn’t put a whole lap together in round two, I locked up on what should have been my quickest lap. It’s a bit disappointing. We have been strong in every practice and if I can’t qualify better than I did it’s going to be tough to take the challenge to the Penske boys. We will keep knocking at the door and hopefully at some point it is going to come to us.”

Fast facts:
Bourdais also qualified seventh for the inaugural Grand Prix of Indianapolis. He finished fourth last year.
Bourdais has qualified in the top-10 all four times this season (St. Petersburg, sixth; Long Beach, ninth; Barber and Indianapolis, seventh) and will start in the top-10 for the fifth time in five races this year (started sixth at NOLA when field gridded by points due to weather).
Bourdais made at least the second round of street/road qualifying for the fourth time this season (St. Petersburg, Long Beach, Barber, and Indianapolis). There was no qualifying at NOLA. He has reached the final round, the Firestone Fast Six, once at St. Petersburg.
Bourdais has finished in the top-10 in three of the first four races of the 2015 Verizon IndyCar Series season (St. Petersburg, sixth; Long Beach, sixth, Alabama, eighth). He was also running sixth before a late pit stop at NOLA dropped him out of the top-10. He was then collected in an incident and finished 21st.
Bourdais is 10th in the championship race with 91 points.
Bourdais led laps in the last two races (Long Beach Grand Prix and Barber) . He led one lap at Long Beach and two at Barber Motorsports Park.
In 2012, Bourdais won the Grand-AM inaugural road race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway with Starworks Motorsport.
The 2015 Angie’s List Grand Prix of Indianapolis will be Bourdais’ 136th Verizon IndyCar Series start, 23rd with KVSH Racing and second in an IndyCar on the road course at IMS. He is contesting his 10th IndyCar season.

Practice 2: Finished 11th – 71.3149 secs / 123.122 mph
Combined: 11th – 71.3149 secs / 123.092 mph (Practice 2)

“We struggled a bit today with overall grip on the car and it took me awhile to find the right setup. We are almost there but not quite and feel confident that tomorrow we will have the right setup and have a good qualifying tomorrow. The track is actually a lot different to the F1 track that I won on in 2006. This configuration is actually a lot more fun because when you get to the back straight and brake for turns 7,8,9 and 10 its really nice and flowing from one turn to another so I really like it. I hope this track is going to bring me as much luck as it did in 2006 and we have an awesome result this weekend.”

Fast Facts:
Coletti was the fastest rookie in practice today
This will be Coletti’s first IndyCar start but second open-wheel start on the road course at IMS.

“It was a pretty good day for the Circle K/Mistic machine. We were quick off the truck and sustained that pace throughout the day. We tried a bunch of things, but we didn’t really make a lot of headway because the track condition wouldn’t allow it. We made some progress on the balance of the car and I believe we are in good shape. Some guys put new tires on at the end and we didn’t because we didn’t have any left. Overall, pretty happy with the car and looking forward to a good weekend.”

ANGIE’S LIST GRAND PRIX OF INDIANAPOLIS – MAY 7-9, 2015
“I am very excited to get back in the car for the Angie’s List Grand Prix of Indianapolis. It’s a track that I’m more familiar with, having won there in 2006 when I was driving in Formula BMW, but there are some parts that have changed since I was there. I am sure the team and I will do a great job and that the result that we have been waiting for will finally come this weekend!

Coletti sits 21st in the standings with 41 points.
The 2015 Angie’s Grand Prix of Indianapolis will be Coletti’s fifth Verizon IndyCar Series start, fifth with KV Racing Technology and first time in an IndyCar on the road course at IMS.

Coletti won on the IMS road course in 2006 in a Formula BMW USA race.

Two weeks ago at Barber, Coletti once again showed his impressive speed and ability to pass, by moving up six spots in 16 laps.

Coletti was very successful in the GP2 Series, the feeder series to Formula One, earning a total of eight wins and one pole in 90 races.

In 2013, Coletti won the GP2 Series sprint race on the Monaco circuit and became the first Monegasque driver since Louis Chrion in 1931 to have won a race in his homeland.

Coletti, 26, is third generation Monegasque, who still resides in Monaco, Monaco.

ANGIE’S LIST GRAND PRIX OF INDIANAPOLIS – MAY 7-9, 2015
“The KVSH Racing team has had a good start to the season. We have shown good pace, but haven’t achieved the results we wanted and need. It’s time to get on the podium and score some bigger points if we are going to be players in the championship race. I was skeptical of the changes they made to the Indy road course, but have to admit that they turned out very well. We were quite strong there last year, finishing fourth, but we need to build on that have a good race this weekend for the team and our sponsors, Mistic, Hydroxycut, Circle K, Plantronics, GEICO, American Racing Wheels, everyone.”

Bourdais sits 10th in the championship standings with 91 points, just 21 away from fifth.
The 2015 Angie’s List Grand Prix of Indianapolis will be Bourdais’ 136th Verizon IndyCar Series start, 23rd with KVSH Racing and second at the road course at IMS.

Bourdais is contesting his 10th Verizon IndyCar Series season (Champ Car, 5: IndyCar, 5. Drove one IndyCar event in 2005, the Indy 500).

In 135 career Verizon IndyCar Series starts, Bourdais has won 32 races placing him eighth on the all-time list and earned 33 pole positions, tied for seventh all-time.

At the inaugural GP of Indy last year, Bourdais led a lap and just missed out on a podium finish and ended up fourth.

Bourdais is the only driver to win four consecutive championships, taking the Champ Car World Series title in 2004 – 2007.

Bourdais, 36, is a native of Le Mans, France but resides in St. Petersburg, Florida.

BAD LUCK RUINS COLETTI’S HONDA INDY GRAND PRIX OF ALABAMA

Started: 16th
Finished: 19th

Fast Facts:

  • Coletti started 16th and was running 10th by lap 16
  • Coletti had the support of Harbert Management Corporation, a U.S. Investment Management company based in Birmingham, Alabama.
  • Gus Malzahn, head football coach for Auburn University, and his wife Kristi were team guests for the race

“We were off to a great start with a great strategy. We pitted and then after that we were running 10th and the car felt great and we were up there. However when we pitted an accident just happened and race control apparently thought that I came in when the yellow was out, which I really don’t think is the case.  We need to get that clarified because they sent me to the back of the field and my race went downhill from there. I tried to pass Jakes and we both made contact and spun and then I got a drive through penalty for avoidable contact and after that it was really over for me. I feel bad for my team because they have been working so hard to give me such a fast race car, but we seem to be getting the worst luck and hopefully that changes soon.”

BOURDAIS PLACES EIGHTH AT HONDA INDY GRAND PRIX OF ALABAMA

Early caution ruins his race

Started: 7th
Finished: 8th

Fast Facts:

  • Bourdais has finished in the top-10 in three of the first four races of the 2015 Verizon IndyCar Series season (St. Petersburg, sixth; Long Beach, sixth, Alabama, eighth). He was also running sixth before a late pit stop at NOLA dropped him out of the top-10. He was then collected in an incident and finished 21st.
  • Bourdais earned 25 points today and is now 10th in the championship race with 91 points.
  • Bourdais led laps for the second consecutive race. He led one lap at Long Beach and two today at Barber Motorsports Park.
  • Today’s eighth place finish is Bourdais best in five starts at Barber Motorsports Park. His previous high was ninth in 2012.

“It was a trying weekend, but we hit the reset button and the Hydroxycut machine was good. The guys really did a hectic of a job. In one way it is frustrating because we struggled so much in practice and qualifying, but at the same time it is encouraging because we were able to recover. We tried something and it didn’t work, so we really hurt ourselves, but then when we got the car back in the window for the race we were quick. There will be some other weekends like this and we will just have to work hard to capitalize. Thanks to Hydroxycut and Mistic we have a strong package behind us and we just have to keep digging.”

* Bourdais has qualified in the top-10 all three times this season (St. Petersburg, sixth; Long Beach, ninth and Barber, seventh) and will start in the top-10 for the fourth time in four races this year (started sixth at NOLA when field gridded by points due to weather.
* Bourdais made at least the second round of street/road qualifying for the third time this season (St. Petersburg, Long Beach and Barber). There was no qualifying at NOLA.
* In four previous starts at Barber Motorsports Park, Bourdais has a best finish of ninth in 2012.
* In four previous starts at Barber, Bourdais has had one top-10 finish (ninth) in 2012 and a best start of 12th last year.

“The Mistic machine was in the top five in both the practice sessions, so we had hoped that we would stay there. We missed the Firestone Fast Six by just a couple hundredths of a second, so obviously we are a little disappointed. It can go either way in these conditions. It wasn’t my greatest lap and we just seem to be struggling a little bit on road courses when we put the red (alternate) tires on. We are getting better, but we still need to fine tune the thing. The Mistic guys did a good job today, now we just have to go get the car ready for race day.”

“I am bit disappointed with how qualifying went today. We haven’t really found the grip that we need so I am sliding around and can’t put down a lap time. Unfortunately that is where we are right now but the team are working hard to try and solve it and hopefully we will have a better day tomorrow.”

Local Alabama company, Harbert Management Corporation, to sponsor Stefano Coletti at Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama

INDIANAPOLIS, IN – April 23, 2015 – KV Racing Technology announced today that Alabama based Harbert Management Corporation will be a sponsor of the No. 4 KV Racing Technology Chevrolet/Dallara/Firestone car driven by Stefano Coletti at the Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama, April 25-26, at Barber Motorsports Park in Leeds, Alabama.

“I am pleased to announce that Harbet Management Corporation will be a sponsor of the No. 4 KV Racing Technology car for the race at Barber Motorsports Park. We are very excited that, once again, a local company has made the decision to take advantage of a unique opportunity to sponsor one of our cars in a local event”, said KVRT team co-owner Kevin Kalkhoven.

Variable Bore Rams, Inc. (VBR), a Louisiana based company, sponsored the No. 4 entry at the Indy Grand Prix of Louisiana and will also be a sponsor of the car this weekend.

“HMC is very pleased to support and sponsor KV Racing Technology’s No.4 car driven by Stefano Coletti,” said Charlie Miller, Executive Vice President Global Head of Distribution HMC. “We have followed KV Racing for many years and are thrilled that they have chosen to compete at Barber Motorsports Park again this year. What George Barber has done for Birmingham and the state of Alabama with his multi-purpose racing facility and museum is simply amazing. We want to thank George and wish Stefano and the entire KV Racing team success and a safe race in their pursuit of victory at the Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama.”

Coletti, who has impressed the IndyCar community with his speed and ability to pass other competitors, set the record for the fastest race lap at the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach last weekend. His talent and aggressiveness have already made him a strong contender for “Rookie of the Year.”

“I am excited to have Harbert Management Corporation as a sponsor for the Grand Prix of Alabama. HMC is based in Alabama so this a home race for them and I am looking forward to having a good result for HMC, their employees and customers,” Coletti said.

The Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama will be live on NBCSN starting at 3:00 p.m. ET on Sunday April 26th. The race will also be on XM 209, IMS IndyCar Radio affiliates, plus IndyCar.com and the Verizon INDYCAR 15 app.

* Went from 23rd to 15th in the first 13 laps

“We had a great start and then the yellow came out. The team called me in for a splash of fuel and it was a really good strategy move, because we were able to pass five or six cars doing that and rejoin the race in 17th. I carried on jumping up tracking positions and got as high as 15th, which was pretty good coming from last but then I had a gearbox problem. I had to come into the pits to repair it and then my race was pretty much over and I was racing on my own. It’s a shame because the No. 4 KV Racing Technology car was really fast and the team gave me a great car, which I showed by setting the fastest lap of the race. We could have easily ended up in the top-10 and its another race that ended up like that, but we will keep on working and be ready for Barber next weekend.”

“It wasn’t really the result we were hoping for. We struggled to find grip and pace from the car, but I’ll sit down with my engineers tonight and we will make some changes for tomorrows session. I really liked the track though. Its a lot of fun to drive and some great passing zones. Hopefully tomorrow I can have a good qualifying and then a good race on Sunday.”

Fast Facts:
Bourdais will drive the No. 11 Team HYDROXYCUT – KVSH Racing Chevrolet/Dallara/Firestone in the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach.

Bourdais has made 10 starts at Long Beach.
He has qualified in the top-five six times with two poles (2006 and 2007), and finished on the podium four times with three wins (2005-2007).

“Obviously I’m disappointed. We are not where we want to be or thought we would be. The Hydroxcut – KVSH Racing team has a lot of work to do. We have to sit down and review all the date, keep our noses to the grindstone and keep working hard. The good news is we have another practice session tomorrow before qualifying and I am confident we will come up with something to make the car faster.”

    • Long Beach’s Grand Prix report is $150K worth of obvious points
That report was made public Monday afternoon, and it’s loaded with an absence of surprises, although there are a few bits of weirdness involved. Rather than submit what KPMG said would be an ideal computer-aided design plan for the proposed F1 track that would identify all mandatory components required following FIA (the governing body of […]
    • Here’s who won the race between Formula 1 and IndyCar in Long Beach
In October last year the city released a request for proposals seeking “an open-wheel auto racing format” to run the annual Grand Prix event. From the start it was only a two-horse race between Michaelian and Pook. Pook, of course, was hardly a carpetbagger. He founded the Long Beach Grand Prix in 1975 and brought […]
    • Q&A: Printup talks future of WGI, IndyCar, Phish
Everybody was excited, but I take a lot of personal interest in IndyCar. I always have. I kind of grew up in IndyCar, so I was glad that we were able to get them back. The fans themselves, for only having a little bit less than 90 days to sell the race last year, we […]
    • Rick Mears – still the ultimate pro at 65
Over the past 20-something years writing about racing, I’ve encountered three people from whom I learn something about the art of racecar driving every time we speak for longer than five minutes. One of that trio is Rick Ravon Mears, born this day 65 years ago in Wichita, Kansas, and brought up in Bakersfield, Calif. […]
    • Memoir helps widow cope after IndyCar driver's death
Tonya Bergeson-Dana talks with her son, Conor, about his father when he brings it up, which is often. If he’s asking the questions, she reasons, he’s ready to hear the answers. Paul Conor Dana, at age 9, knows that his father was Paul Dana, a journalist and IndyCar driver who died in March 2006 during […]
