A Honda official has told TSO that just before the Newgarden accident they were told by INDYCAR that the centerline wicker was mandatory ON for Honda powered cars and mandatory OFF for Chevrolet powered cars. TSO has observed that the Chevrolet powered cars have removed their centerline wickers.  The splines were added by INDYCAR prior to the Angie’s List Grand Prix of Indianapolis to help keep the car on the ground when the car is sideways.
