PENSKE 60: Team Penske has 61 total starts at Portland International Raceway (PIR) with their first race on the 1.964-mile road course coming in 1984. Danny Sullivan scored the team’s first victory at PIR in 1988, winning from the pole position and leading 46 laps. Sullivan, Emerson Fittipaldi, Al Unser Jr., Gil de Ferran, Will Power and Scott McLaughlin have all earned wins for Team Penske at PIR for a total of nine victories.
THEY SAID IT: “Yeah, I mean, anyplace especially you come to that you won before. I think for me, being able to go to a track that requires a little bit of technicality in terms of braking hard, hairpins. Then you have the fast-flowing nature of part of the track as well. It’s a challenge to set up for, a challenge to drive and get completely right. It’s a small lap. Always very tight. It’s rewarding when you get it right, but it does punish you when you get it wrong. Hopefully this Sonsio Chevy team is on the right end of it and can make it happen. Certainly feels good.”
