INDIANAPOLIS – May 16, 2015 – The first day of qualifications for the 99th running of the Indianapolis 500 has been canceled due to persistent and heavy rainfall. Prior to the precipitation two drivers were able to make qualifying runs. Chevrolet’s Scott Dixon was on a qualifying lap when the rains came. Qualifying will resume tomorrow under a revised schedule.

Drivers and teams will get back on track Sunday at 8 a.m. for practice. The 34 entrants will be split into two groups for practice each group receiving 20 minutes. Qualifying will officially start at 10 a.m. with each driver getting one turn through the qualifying line. Positions 10 – 30 will be locked in following the session. The fast nine will battle it out for the Indy 500 pole beginning at 1:45 p.m. After a pole winner is established drivers in positions 31-33 and any unqualified drivers will receive another attempt to make the field for the ‘Greatest Spectacle in Racing’.

Qualifications will be broadcast live on ESPN 3 and Watch ESPN from 10 a.m. to noon. Coverage will move to ABC from 1 p.m to 3 p.m. Audio coverage also is available and will be broadcast by the IMS Radio Network, plus Sirius and XM channels 209 and www.indycar.com.
