GRAND PRIX OF INDIANAPOLIS: RACE REPORT

SHELBY BLACKSTOCK
NO. 51 STARSTRUCK MAZDA

  • After starting from P12, the Nashville native was seen as high as P7 before coming to the twin checkers for today’s Grand Prix of Indianapolis Race One in P8

“Today was a decent day – we finished P8. We made some headway with the car, so we will definitely put that into use going into tomorrow’s Race Two. We’re just starting too far back right now to work through all the stuff we’re finding (to be competitive in the race). Unfortunately our car went into a ‘limp mode’ during that first incident, which we probably could have made up a couple more positions… Looking forward to tomorrow.”

WEIRON TAN
NO. 22 WEIRON TAN
ANDRETTI AUTOSPORT MAZDA

  • Began today’s 20-lap race from the fifth position and captured a top-five finish in P4
  • Rookie also put down the fastest race lap, garnering an extra point to put him fourth in the championship standings

“Race Two was quite interesting – we did it in a really controlled pace. We did set the fastest lap, so that shows that we are improving in terms of pace. The top five are all running really close and it’s not easy to catch one another, especially when we all have the same speed running down the straights. We’re still making pace, and I think we’re looking good for tomorrow, so hopefully we can push better for Race Two!”

DALTON KELLETT
NO. 28 K-LINE INSULATORS USA, INC.
ANDRETTI AUTOSPORT MAZDA

  • Canadian racer rolled off the grid in the 13th position and after falling back to as low as P17, made his way back up to P13 for the finish

“Not the result that we wanted for today finishing P13. I made a mistake in Turn 1 and drove off, went through the runoff, and as a result, I lost quite a few spots and basically spent the remainder of the race recovering that error. For tomorrow we just have to focus on getting a better start to the race and making good, consistent passes and move up the field with our K-Line Insulators USA Mazda.”
