INDIANAPOLIS, Thursday, May 26, 2005 – The red carpet will roll out in Indianapolis this weekend as celebrities from around the globe arrive in the Circle City for a number of events surrounding the 89th running of the Indianapolis 500.
The festivities begin Friday, May 27 for Miller Lite Carb Day. An afternoon concert by The Black Crowes precedes the black-tie Snake Pit Ball. The nationally televised 500 Festival Parade is Saturday, May 28, and the 500-Mile Race is Sunday, May 29.
Headlining the list of celebrities is Gen. Colin Powell, former U.S. Secretary of State, who will drive the Chevrolet Corvette Pace Car on Race Day. Reggie Miller, who recently retired after 18 seasons in the National Basketball Association with the Indiana Pacers, will serve as honorary grand starter of the 500. Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels also will attend the race.
Other prominent figures expected to attend are actress Carol Burnett, actor Cheech Marin and former “Survivor” winner Rupert Boneham.
