A familiar name will grace the stage prior to the start of the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Pete for a rendition of 'God Bless America.' Anna de Ferran, daughter of 2003 Indianapolis 500 champion Gil de Ferran, is also performing Saturday afternoon at the IndyCar Fan Village. With a British mum and Brazilian dad, Anna, who as a child grew up in Ft. Lauderdale, began song writing at an early age. She describes her duties during the pre-race ceremonies as her biggest gig by far. According to the press notes, Anna is currently writing and recording music as a solo artist and is "no longer pursuing a career as a spy. Or so she says."

Don't shoot me, I'm just the messenger, but I live in Washington and I know darn well an attractive, bilingual young lady (I suspect she knows SOME Portuguese), who was educated in London, would make a fine spy. Just sayin'.

USF2000 Qualifying Notes

We were speaking with Ryan Briscoe in the media center when USF2000 qualifying took the green flag. When we returned to our post the red flag was out. It was reported that Felipe Donato went off at Turn 12. The ensuing clean up period lasted over 8 minutes, a large portion of the 30 minute session.

With 10 minutes remaining Aaron Telitz moves to P1.

Victor Franzoni and RC Enerson improve moving Telitz to third.

Red flag shown for a car in the wall at Turn 8. Although we do not have a confirmed report, the GPS dots show the car as the No. 15 of Gustavo Myasava.

The incident ends the session.

PRO MAZDA Qualifying

Spencer Pigot and Kyle Kaiser takes turns atop the speed chart in the opening laps.

While I haven't been outside in the past hour or two the skies are starting to look threatening. The threat of weather and the possibility of a shortened session due to an incident have drivers on their game at the start of this 30 minute session.

Shelby Blackstock and Pipo Derani takes turns atop the speed chart.

With 20 minutes remaining, most drivers have completed 5 laps. Pigot is P13.

Pigot to P2 on his 9th lap, 3 one-thousandths of a second from Hargrove who is P1

On the next lap, Pigot to P1 over Hargrove by 4 one-hundredths of a second.

Red flag with 10 minutes remaining. Bobby Eberle made contact with the wall at Turn 2. Safety crews responded and Eberle was able to continue. Debris, either a attenuator or a bit of nose cone, was cleared from the track and Eberle reports to the pits.

Top five are: Spencer Pigot, Scott Hargrove, Kyle Kaiser, Shelby Blackstock and Jose Gutierrez. Pigot currently 0.2837 seconds faster than Hargrove.

No indication of a checkered flag but during the red we see ramps being transported on the track. The ramps are used for the Robbie Gordon's truck series. Apparently they were taking the ramps from one staging area to another.

PRO MAZDA qualifying resumes with four minutes remaining.
