Plainfield, IL (August 25, 2016) – The Dale Coyne Racing team is returning to Texas Motor Speedway this weekend for the continuation of the Firestone 600 which started June 12th and was postponed and rescheduled to August 27 due to rain.

The race will resume on lap 72 with 177 laps remaining. Gabby Chaves, in his #19 Boy Scouts of America car, will be restarting the event in sixth place. The Columbian had made his way up the field, running as high as third, from his 22nd starting position. He was sixth when the red flag put a stop to the race.

The team’s full-time driver Conor Daly will not be restarting the Firestone 600, having crashed out of the race June 12th on Lap 42 while running second. Daly, whose car got loose exiting turn four, collected Josef Newgarden as his #18 Jonathan Byrd’s Hospitality/NanoProMT car slid up towards the wall.

Both cars suffered extensive damage and per IndyCar rules will not be allowed to restart the event. Daly will be present supporting his team, taking in the action and participating in fan activities.

The Coyne team will also be hosting Addison, TX Police Chief Paul Spencer and some of his officers on Saturday night during the race. Spencer, a long time friend of Team Manager Darren Crouser, will be manning the stop sign for Chaves during pit stops.

The team’s hosting of the officers ties into Texas Motor Speedway and IndyCar’s ‘Back the Blue Night’, an initiative to display appreciation for the dedicated service of police officers.

Drivers will have a 10-minute practice session prior to the restart of the race with Chaves taking part in the Group 1 session at 4:35pm local time.

The Firestone 600 will restart at 8:15pm local time and will be broadcast live on NBCSN.

“We hope to have good weather this time in Texas! I went into the race at 22 years old and I’ll finish it at 23, so hopefully that will be some good luck. We’re definitely in a position where we can actually go for the win, so I’m very excited and very much looking to finishing out the oval calendar on a very high note for the team and myself. It’s always tricky to get back in the car especially that we will only have ten minutes to get sorted and get running before going straight into the race. You have to be committed and trust in the abilities that you have and trust in what the team gives you and that’s what I’ll be doing.”

(About the incident on Lap 42, June 12th)
“I was the rookie to make the mistake. The car was really consistent. It was fantastic and we were making great progress. I didn’t expect that slide at all. We were consistently running and all of a sudden the rear (tires) just totally lost grip. I felt like I floated all the way through the corner. It was all my mistake. I should have recognized it but it was definitely a rookie mistake. I was trying to stay a little bit lower because I knew Josef (Newgarden) was coming. Maybe by pinching it a little bit, I just put too much load on the right rear. While the car was quite good I was on the edge in (turn) three and four all the time.”
