HISTORY IN LBC.

The streets of Long Beach pack notable history for the Andretti team and its lineage. Andretti family racing patriarch Mario Andretti won the first ever Indy car race in Long Beach in 1984, and continued on to two additional Indy car wins on the southern California street circuit, as well as claiming victory in the 1977 United States Grand Prix Formula 1 event.

Andretti Autosport namesake Michael Andretti bookended his racing career in Long Beach – with his first career win coming in 1986 and the final win of his career in 2002. Additionally, Michael’s first win as sole-team owner came on the 1.968-mile circuit when Ryan Hunter-Reay took the twin checkers in 2010, the American’s first win with the Indianapolis-based team.
