DETROIT, Mich. (January 8, 2016) – One of the Motor City’s most popular homegrown national bands will return to their roots as The Romantics will rock the MotorCity Casino Hotel Entertainment Stage on Saturday, June 4 at the Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix.
Hailing from from Detroit’s east side, The Romantics will be featured in a special concert as the Grand Prix hosts the first of two Chevrolet Dual in Detroit presented by Quicken Loans Verizon IndyCar Series races on Saturday afternoon. All Saturday ticket holders will be welcome to attend the concert at the MotorCity Casino Hotel Entertainment Stage, located in the Meijer Fan Zone. The concert announcement was made live this morning on Detroit’s classic rock station, 94.7 FM, WCSX radio – one of the Grand Prix’s key media partners.
The Romantics rose to national prominence in the 80s with popular and iconic hit songs including “What I Like About You,” “Talking in Your Sleep” and “One in a Million.” The party band was first formed in 1977, mixing blue collar Detroit rock with the British punk invasion. The Romantics will bring their unique sound to the MotorCity Casino Hotel Entertainment Stage to celebrate the fastest weekend of the summer at the Grand Prix with their hometown fans.
“The Romantics are a great Detroit band and we’re excited to welcome them back to the Motor City at the Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix,” said Bud Denker, Chairman of the Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix. “The Grand Prix is so much more than just a racing event, with some great national music acts performing for our fans every year and we are proud to continue this tradition in 2016. We will have a full day of world-class racing on track on June 4, and a terrific show by The Romantics to help celebrate the Grand Prix.”
The Romantics concert will help showcase a busy Saturday at the Grand Prix. Three races from three different series – the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, the SPEED Energy Formula Off-Road presented by Traxxas featuring high-flying trucks and the first INDYCAR race of the weekend in the Chevrolet Dual in Detroit presented by Quicken Loans – will thrill fans of all ages. Additional Grand Prix concert announcements will be made in the coming days.
