Helio Castroneves Puts Chevrolet on Verizon IndyCar Series Pole at Pocono Raceway

LONG POND, Penn (August 22, 2015) – Helio Castroneves is the Verizon P1 Award winner for the fourth time in the 2015 Verizon IndyCar Series season. With a two-lap average speed of 220.530 mph, the driver of the No. 3 Shell V-Power Nitro + Team Penske Chevrolet have will the best seat in the house for the start of the ABC Supply 500 on Sunday afternoon at Pocono Raceway. It is the 45th career pole for Castroneves, but his first at the 2.5-mile track known as the Tricky Triangle.
Castroneves pole winning effort puts a Chevrolet at the head of the field for the 15th time this season – 13 of the poles were won on-track, and twice weather forced the field to be set by entrant points. On both weather-related occasions, fellow Team Penske Chevrolet driver Juan Pablo Montoya garnered the number one starting position as the points leader. Montoya has led the standings the entire season following his win of race number one on the Streets of St. Petersburg.

Drivers of the Chevrolet Aero Kit with fully integrated 2.2 liter V6 twin turbocharged fuel injected fueled by E85 Indy cars filled the first two rows of the field for Sunday’s 200-lap/500-mile race.

Simon Pagenaud, No. 22 Penske Truck Rental Team Penske Chevrolet, will start alongside his teammate on row one. Defending Series Champion Will Power, No. 1 Verizon Team Penske Chevrolet, will start third and Josef Newgarden put his No. 67 Hartman Oil CFH Racing Chevrolet, in the fourth starting position.

The ABC Supply 500 is set to start on Sunday, August 23 at 2 p.m. ET with live television coverage on NBC Sports Network.
