SERVIA QUALIFIED 13TH FOR THE 99TH INDIANAPOLIS 500 AND RAHAL QUALIFIED 17TH

GRAHAM RAHAL, No. 15 Steak ‘n Shake Dallara/Honda/Firestone: “The Steak ‘n Shake car handled great but the car decided to not shift. It was stuck in gear and our whole strategy for qualifying with the wind like it is was to shift to sixth on the back straight but it wouldn’t switch gears and was on the rev limiter all the way down the back straight and in these cars, if you sit on the rev limiter too long it kills the speed so the time went down. The first two laps were good, and then the third lap dropped off a lot because the car got jammed in fifth gear and was on the rev limiter the whole back straight. Then the next lap it went up to sixth but then wouldn’t go back down. Unfortunately we just killed that run. It’s disappointing. The handling was consistent over four laps, really good. It’s good to get qualifying behind us and focus on the race.”

FAST FACTS: Will be his eighth Indy 500 and fourth with RLL. His best qualifying position in the Indy 500 is fourth in 2009 with Newman/Haas/Lanigan Racing and best finish is third with Service Central Chip Ganassi Racing in 2011 after he led six laps. He ran in the top-five in four of his seven previous races here… He is tied for fourth in series point standings with Scott Dixon with a total of 144 and is only 27 points out of first place (Juan Pablo Montoya, 177).

ORIOL SERVIA, No. 32 Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing Dallara/Honda/Firestone: “I think we were very well-prepared for qualifying; the team did a great job. We were all put in the same position. Everybody had basically half an hour to figure out the perfect combination of settings and I’m very happy with the job we did. The car felt good all along in race trim and as we know, that’s what count. Even though we are here so long, running every day, but when it comes to qualifying or race day you always have something in the car untested somehow and that’s the magic of this place. I’m very happy with how the team reacted to the last minute rule changes. We basically had 30 minutes to figure out what to do.”

FAST FACTS: Will be his seventh Indy 500 and third with RLL. His best finish here is fourth in 2012 with Dreyer & Reinbold Racing and best start in 2011 with Newman/Haas Racing.
