MRTI Blog – Neil Alberico – A special celebration with my racing family

Please welcome our newest Mazda Road To Indy blogger, Neil Alberico.  Alberico is a 22 year-old Redlands, California racer who is currently leading the Pro Mazda championship while piloting the Rising Star Racing/Mobe sponsored race car for Cape Motorsports with /WTR.  He is also part of Rising Star Racing, along with Verizon IndyCar Series driver Josef Newgarden and Indy Lights presented by Cooper Tire pilot Spencer Pigot.  The trio “may” have just had a fairly successful weekend at Barber Motorsports Park.  Here are some of his thoughts:

MRTI Blog – Neil Alberico – A special celebration with my racing family

Redlands, Calif. (April 27,2015) – Wow, I don’t even know where to start. What a weekend for all of us at Rising Star Racing. I think after the way we started the season in St. Pete by sweeping the Pro Mazda weekend we said to ourselves, “It doesn’t get much better than this”. Well it just did.

I think Sunday April 26th 2015 is going to be one of those special days that we will always get to look back on. Just like everyone else in the racing industry we have good days, and we have bad days. I think what makes our bad days good and our good days special are the people we have surrounding us at Rising Star Racing. I think in racing as in life, when you have people who truly believe in you because of their love and desire for mutual success, great things are bound to happen.

The whole RSR crew met for dinner Sunday night after we all had won our races and I think it was easy to realize we have simply grown into one large family. It was fun to see everyone genuinely stoked for each other. Josef obviously won his first Indycar race, Spencer dominated the Indy Lights race and that Sunday morning I managed to win in Pro Mazda.

It’s insane, I think everyone foresaw all of us winning on that day as this – wouldn’t it be cool if? – type of scenario. Then, throughout the day everyones mind turned into this – wow, this is really happening! – type of scenario. Finally, when Josef crossed that line in the lead you can’t help but look up to the sky think that these things are not just chance. We have all been blessed with this incredible opportunity and I think it’s safe to say we are fortunate to be surrounded by the best people this sport has to offer.

It’s great to reflect, but were days away from the month of May and that means Indianapolis baby! Time to put our heads back down and win the race everyone wants to win.
