Spencer Pigot Scores Double Podiums in MRTI Indy Lights Debut

Kyle Kaiser Claims Top-5’s at the Mazda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg

St. Petersburg, FL (March 30, 2015) – Juncos Racing showed a strong start to the 2015 Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires season at the Mazda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg Presented by Peninsula Pipeline. Rookies Spencer Pigot and Kyle Kaiser, who both moved up the Mazda Road to Indy ladder, made an impressive run in the new Dallara IL-15 chassis and 2.0-liter turbocharged Mazda MZR-R engine in Races 1 and 2 on the 1.8 mile, 14-Turn street course located in St. Petersburg, Florida. After the two opening rounds of the 16 race campaign Juncos Racing currently sits second in the Indy Lights championship.

Starting off the season in front of his hometown crowd, American Spencer Pigot, 21, (Orlando, Florida) driving the #12 MAZDASPEED scholarship car, scored two strong third place finishes in his rookie debut. Pigot, who qualified fifth for both races, earned the “Replay XD Move of the Race Award” for Races 1 and 2 after making two fast launches on the opening laps. Pigot stands third in the championship.

“Great weekend for the Juncos Racing team at St. Pete,” said Pigot. “I’m really happy to be on the podium twice. It’s a big step up for me and all of the guys so I’m really proud of what we were able to accomplish this weekend. A big thanks to all of the crew, my sponsors Mazda, Mockett, Rising Star Racing, The Stutz, and BAD for all of their support. We will look to improve for Long Beach, but this is a great start to the season.”

Making his first Indy Lights series start American Kyle Kaiser, 19, (Santa Clara, California) driving the #18 InterVision/NetApp/JuniperNetworks car claimed two Top-5 finishes after qualifying sixth in Race 1 and seventh in Race 2 on the Streets of St. Petersburg. Kaiser is currently tied for fourth in the championship.

“Overall it was a pretty solid weekend with two Top-5 finishes to start the 2015 season,” said Kaiser. “We still have a lot to improve on as we head into the next rounds at Long Beach. I think we had a little slower start to the weekend than we anticipated during the sessions, we were kind of playing catch up. By the last race I feel like we made a ton of progress so we should be good going into Long Beach. We will continue to work hard to bring a better performance to the track and I look forward to getting back in the car in a few weeks. I’d like to thank the Juncos Racing crew, my dad, and all of my sponsors for all of their continued hard work.”

After an impressive start to the 2015 season Juncos Racing Team Owner, Ricardo Juncos, is proud of the team’s performance in both races taking their first two podiums in the Indy Lights series. Juncos is confident the team will only continue to improve in results as the season gets underway.

“I’m really proud of what the drivers and team have accomplished in our first weekend of the 2015 season,” said Juncos. “Everyone has worked hard on the new Dallara IL-15 and it showed this weekend at St. Pete. We still have a lot of work ahead of us, but I know if we continued to stay focused we will only continue to accomplish more. After working with both drivers the past two years, I have seen a lot of growth in their development behind the wheel and I look forward to seeing where we go from here. I want to thank the Juncos Racing crew for all of their hard work on the new car, the drivers for their dedication, and to all of our sponsors and fans who give us amazing support.”
